All across IT we use TMAs.....see I just did it. Sometimes they make us laugh and sometimes they make us scratch our heads. Have you tried writing or speaking without using a TLA (two or three letter acronym) or a FLA (four or fix letter acronym)? Perhaps we are conserving our breaths or the letters we type (could that be a way to lower our carbon footprint?)
Pronuciation is also a challenge. Is it S-O-A or sooooooooooah? Is it W-A-S or was or waaaas? Is it C-I-C-S or kicks? Is it R-A-D or rad? If it is rad is that short for radical which also could be the slang for cool, hip, trendy? So is RAD rad? Are there any BAD products? or OLD ones?
And so many acronyms mean more than one thing. I am not a fan of IM ...well when used to mean Instant Messaging yes...but not for Information Management. A few letters make all the difference in clarity.
Then there is Business Optimization (BO). When used in a sentence " I am currently working on the BO project which will enhance productivity ...." or "due to BO we've improved..." some acronyms just make you scratch your head and laugh at the same time...
