Many of my friends and family have no idea what software development is and I often struggle to explain it in simple terms. My new quest in 2010 is going to be finding (and sharing) the "real technology for real people" articles, stories and more that I find on developerWorks.
It really hit home when talking to a friend about recent health concerns. We did a few "wouldn't it be nice if" and then I realized... we don't have to wish.
One of our "what ifs" was about being able to mobile devices that measure and track your current health status, can produce a report and even allow your doctor to view it. And that is when I came upon the "real technology for real people". This great article shows one of the simple devices and the software behind it that makes it work. Tools to help our lives are no longer dreams. We take so much for granted. At the beginning of the last century, cars, airplanes, going to the moon, talking pictures and so much more were all "crazy" ideas.
Turning ideas into reality...that is what software developers do. Dare I say it.....software developers make dreams come true?
