Service Health for IBM SmartCloud Provisioning
Streamlines Installation Allowing Shorter Time to Value
by Charles Carter
IBM is making it easier to deploy IBM SmartCloud Monitoring,
a product which integrates IBM Tivoli Monitoring and IBM SmartCloud Provisioning
in an Infr
SmartCloud Monitoring is one component of IBM SmartCloud Foundation which enables organizations to manage and automate cloud and virtual environments for a dynamic service delivery model. Service Health provides visibility into the cloud infrastructure by tracking performance of the components and predicting potential issues before clients are impacted.
Service Health monitors the health of a SmartCloud Provisioning infrastructure and automatically configures new infrastructure elements as they are added. Service Health for IBM SmartCloud Provisioning supports KVM and VMware ESXi hypervisors
The installation of Service Health for SmartCloud Provisioning does not require additional hardware; however there is a requirement for disk space and network connectivity. From a network connectivity perspective, all IBM SmartCloud Provisioning nodes (that is, Compute Nodes, Storage Nodes, and Kernel-Service Nodes) must be able to communicate with the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server, to transmit their monitoring information.
Once installed, Service Health will add a new custom navigator which provides a logical view of your SmartCloud Monitoring infrastructure. For each grouping in this navigator view there is a pre-built Workspace to provide information relevant to the selected SmartCloud Provisioning component. This solution provides multiple monitoring situations to provide alerts for common issues that could affect the availability of your IBM SmartCloud Provisioning environment.
.Health Workspaces provide the IT staff with a view of the overall infrastructure for a consolidated view of cloud health and allow administrators to drill down into areas that need attention. Role-based visibility into the infrastructure enables control and automation in a cloud or virtual environment.
