One part of the celebration of 50 years of IBM at the Hursley site involves this great CBR supplement that covers those 50 years across all software, and hardware developments, and essentially innovation in the IT industry that have come out of Hursley. The lab is less than 5 miles from Winchester (originally the capital of England) hence the name of the original MB HDD - the Winchester Drive.
There are many things we all take for granted that have started life in Hursley, not to mention the backbone of the banking infrastructure, CICS, without which we wouldn't have cash points or 'holes in the wall'... and of course from my perspective a workable everyday Storage Virtualization solution.
Next month we are running an event for CIO's and the press, that covers ongoing innovation at Hursley, I've been asked to help organise the arenas to showcase what IBM STG are doing in Hursley and we should have some great things to talk about with respect to where we are going and where we are innovating for the future, more of which I'll cover over the next few weeks.
In the meantime, I urge you all to take a few minutes and read the Brief History of Time wrt IBM Hursley
Have a great weekend.
