IBM released the next version of Storage Configuration Manager (SCM) in Nov 2008. SCM 2.10.0 is the next step in element management of IBM Blade Center S (BCS) chassis. SCM can now be used to managed the MegaRaid Controller modules on the blades and also the Raided SAS Switches in your BCS chassis. With the MegaRaid Controller module's management interface, You can detect external or internal drives, Create and manage Raid 0,1,5,50,6,60 type of Pools and Volumes and much more with a web based GUI from your browser. On a raided SAS Switch module you can not only perform your disk management but also access control by zoning the drives through SAS Switch. SCM 2.10.0 continues to support the Intergrated Raid Controller (IRC) and Non Raided SAS Switch modules as before. Here is the change history from the official SCM site for Version 2.10.01. SCM Manager for ServeRAID MR Controller Module has been added in this release.
2. SCM Manager for BladeCenter S SAS RAID Controller Module has new fixes applied.
3. SCM Manager for BladeCenter SAS Connectivity Module has new fixes applied.
4. SCM Manager for Integrated RAID Controller has new fixes appliedHere is why you should use SCM:1. It gives uniform interface for any of the above devices that you are going to manage, so you don;t need to learn your stuff again and again every time you get a new device. If you know how to create a volume, it will be always be same for all types of devices. No need to look for and learn new interfaces anymore.2. It is a web based GUI so you can manage your devices from your computer in the netwrok with just some clicks in the browser. No installations on Client side and you just have setup an SCM server, in the network. It could just be your blade in BCS chassis.3. SCM 2.10.0 interface is highly integrated with the new IBM Director and you can manage your devices using same SCM interface now from IBM Director too. If you have the new IBM Director, you don;t even need to install and set up separate SCM server unless it is MegaRaid Controller.Note that the above information is just for reference and not official declarations.
