This week I'm busy with moving the content and applications across from my current thinkpad to the a new Lenovo T60p. I tried using the IBM MyHelp utility for the migration. Things are better than when I did similar migration 3 years ago. But still moving from one machine to a new machine with higher capabilities, is still a pain and takes out a lot of your time. You need to be aware of the features as well in the new machine to leverage the infrastructure better. For instance, I did everything right to get the wireless adapter working. Downloaded the driver and installed it to enable the wireless adpater. Sadly the system wont detect any wireless network. Then did as we engineers always do. Refer the manual in the end. Figured out that there is a new button available in the T60p which enables and disables all the wireless connections which was not there in my current T42 model. Switched it on and now it could see my home wireless network as well as find my neighbours network. In SOA, believe there are similar challenges. How can we minimise the impact to people moving from one version of service to a later version or to a different service provided. With cleanly declared service interfaces things are not so hard with SOA.
