Sanjaya, crawfish pieya, filet gumbo
Cause tonight I'm gonna sing my exiteo
Pick guitar fill, fruit jar and be bravo
Son of a gun, gonna take a bow and say goodbyeyo
... all done to a rapid two-beat with the audience clapping along and Paula square-dancing with Simon. I really think that could have saved him one more week. But then again, left to American TV viewers, who control it all with their votes, he'll probably survive this cut anyway and continue the most bizarre riff on the Cinderella story since Gilbert Gottfried beat out Daryll Hannah for the part of the mermaid in "Splash" -- NOT!
This hilarious series of Bangkok Insurance commercials demonstrates the odds that Sanjaya survives by on American Idol.
Parting thought considering Sanjaya's elimination from the competition: It has been easy to poke fun at a mediocre singer whose crazy rocket ship trip to fame was made possible by an unreasonable cultural TV obsession. But at least by what we've seen, Sanjaya Malakar seems the type of kind and humble star that we need more of. We already have some bad singers and actors with unpleasant character. Why not add one with some meekness, a quality we could use a lot more of today. Let's just hope his meekness survives the humility-destroyer that is called fame. A tall order, indeed.
