Pulse 2012: DevOps with Bill Higgins and Dan Berg
robinlangford 120000GAXQ Visits (5005)
Dan explains that the ideas originated with the internet giants such as Google, Facebook, and Netflix. As a vibrant community grew up around the concepts, the principles and techniques began to be adopted in other settings to address the question: how to build complex technology stacks quickly at massive scale while retaining high quality?
Bill and Dan talk about the cultural gaps between development and IT and test and the need to think in terms of continuous delivery. They discuss the idea of infrastructure as code and the recommendation to implement change incrementally. Today developers think nothing of a continuous integration build. Down the road, continuous delivery will be an ingrained practice. And if we look further out, we can think of applying these techniques to make a smarter physical infrastructure: streets, buildings, and cities. 10:49
