As mentioned you can use SCE to manage your environments, deploy, capture systems and import new appliances. But first you need to ensure a few things are set up, so click 'Configure the Cloud' -
From here we can do a number of important tasks, these are configure Network, Cloud Settings, Expiration, and Approval.
As you can see from the image above we have a number of VLANs set-up. SCE uses these IP pools to deploy the systems too, so we will need to set aside some IP to this environment. It can be as many as you want or have available, and can change depending on you requirements at the time. Having something fixed will give your users a clear idea of what they are deploying too. Clicking 'New Configuration' will give you a number of options to fill in, DHCP information if you prefer, or a pool or IP's as per the image above. Then just the usual defaults, subnet, gateway, DNS server, and names for the network. See the example below -
The IP pool is just a block of addresses added directly into the SCE.
Cloud Setting -
We will not discuss at length as this should have been set at the time of build, but this section covers the details of the Virtual Machine you will be talking to. Be that POWER via VMControl or Intel via VMware -
Expiration Policies -
From here we can set a number of default policies in regards to managing our cloud environment. If you enable a expiration policy this will mean that when a workload is deployed will expire after the number of days set in the policy. Once expired, the server will be stopped, and if the option has been set, deleted automatically (with a optional grace period). Along with this you can set-up default e-mail reminders and follow-ups, the users can also opt to extend the workload period within a default set extension period.
Approval Policies -
As with expiration policies, you can set rules that send out requests to 'administrators' for approval before the creation of workload. This can be set for the following events -
· Workload expiration extend.
· Virtual server detach storage request.
· Virtual server attach storage request.
· Virtual server restore.
· Virtual server save image...
· Workload initiation.
· Workload capture..
· Workload resize.
The approvals are control by either Cloud Administrator, or the Project lead who has been give sufficient access.
