Giving small companies an entree to virtualization: PowerVM is software that delivers virtualization on IBM POWER processor-based systems for UNIX, Linux, and i5/OS users based on IBM virtualization technologies that include micropartitioning, Live Partition Mobility, and virtualized storage management. Formerly Advanced POWER Virtualization, the PowerVM versions (Express, Standard, Enterprise) offer a wide range of options, including support for p520, p550, JS21, JS22 servers and a number of management options. You can create up to three logical partitions on a single server and run UNIX, Linux on Power, and Linux x86 binary applications unmodified without recompilation. When combined with POWER6 or BladeCenter servers, users can create up to 160 virtual partitions or server images in a single system.
