A life of a tweet

Among the most retweeted posts, the majority concerned supporting the teams or expressing admiration or criticism for the players. Another kind of popular tweets were those with a hint of irony or humo r for instance: „ RT @Charles_HRH: Sweden have no ikea how to play football. #Euro2012”. Also, it came as a surprise that in the group of most popular tweets there were several about Polish players and matches. It seems Poland has quite nice visibility on Twitter, however we would like to find out who is the main group that tweets about Poland.

I was curious how does a popular tweet’s life look like. From this analysis it seems that tweets live a relatively short but intensive life. When they are born there is a huge peek showing that people have great interest in fresh news. But with time their fame deteriorates, as the news is no longer new.
From the chart you can see that the peeks in tweets are strongly correlated with the dates of matches (SWE-FRA and ENG-UKR on 19 June, SWE-ENG and UKR-FRA on 15 June, POL-GRE and RUS-CZE on 8 June).
