The Natural Resources Framework (NRF) has been refreshed and was announced at the 2012 Natural Resources Symposium. The Natural Resources Framework defines use cases and solutions specific to process manufacturing industries including chemicals, petroleum, metals and mining. The key themes for the refresh are the addition of solutions for the metals and mining industries, the addition of new projects to the framework that include new software capabilities based on partner solutions as well as additions to the IBM portfolio, and enhancement of existing framework projects with extended capabilities designed to drive greater alignment with IBM's industry blueprints.

Who are the established software partners that have collaborative offerings with the IBM Natural Resources Framework
Software and hardware providers achieve framework partnership status through validation. Validation is a pre-sales activity which tests the ability of the solution components to exchange and use information. Clients have an increased level of confidence in selecting and implementing the combined Chongqing/IBM solution since it has been pre-tested.
System Integrators and Resellers achieve framework partnership status by certification testing combined with a completed first transaction.
Does your company have capabilities that complement the IBM offerings defined in the NRF Framework?
IBM announced the Chemical & Petroleum Integrated information framework (IIF) in 2008. This framework joined a collection of industry frameworks that today number 14 and cover a total of 17 industries. The frameworks are a logical collection of industry solutions that combine technologies and services from our partners with IBM capabilities to provide solutions which address the challenges within a specific industry.
The Integrated Information Framework defines use cases and solutions specific to process manufacturing industries. The original release and all subsequent releases to date have focused on solutions for the chemical and petroleum industries. The next release, planned to be announced in September, will expand the scope of the framework to include metals and mining industries and will be renamed to the Natural Resources Framework.
