I wanted to try the new Config Wizard in portal8 , in most of my engagements as a member of the development team i would not have access for Portal server for executing the config task . The config wizard would be a good workaround for this. Access to admin console is what is needed for executing the config task . All configengine task can be executed using configwizard . The config wizard by default is deployed to the cw_profile that is created as a part of the portal install . The cw_profile is not started by default . The ConfigWizard is a portlet instance that is deployed to WAS. In this scenario i am going to use the config wizard to do a database transfer from derby to db2 . With Portal 8.0 release the config wizard can generate the workflow and scripts to do a datatransfer but it is not possible to execute the scripts from the config wizard . Once you log into the admin console you can access the config wizard from the left navigation There are 10 workflows available out of the Box and you can create any number of workflows .Below is the screenshot of the available workflows.
For this i selected the Transfer Database workflow , but before proceeding further - I run version 7 and version 8 on the same system i had to update the config wizard preference to refer to the correct v8 profile
Now i customized the Transfer Database workflow . you can import the workflow , export the workflow and share with your customer and other team and customize the workflow . I just updated the OOB transfer database workflow with the right properties valu
Once selecting the appropriate values proceed to step2 to customize the workflow .
.Instead of updating the properties file this give you a easy interface to update the properties . I updated the properties for all the data domains and also database parameters that corresponds to wkpl
Other task that you can perform with Config Wizard -
For executing simple config engine task you can directly execute the single task using the run config task option . execute the task and check the status of the task in the screen.
Config wizard is a one of the good v8 features that i like . there is more on the config wizard . I would update the post as and when i explore it..
