Different Types of reports in the RLKS Admin and reporting tool:
Reports display valuable statistics about how users are using the assets and repository.
Managing software assets goes beyond submitting them to a repository and managing them through consumption. Over time, looking at the changing elements, the models and trends of asset details, consumption use cases, and users information can help companies evaluate the needs of their current business strategies.
Lets understand the different types of reports available and the insights they provide...
Peak usage : This metric represents the maximum number of license requests that were granted by the selected license servers for the selected products. If more than one license type is selected in the report definition (floating and token as license type), the peak usage report shows multiple numbers in the bar graphs. The following example shows a peak distribution report with two counts per bar.
Peak denial : This metric represents the maximum number of license requests that selected license servers denied for the selected products during the specified time.
Note: In certain reporting scenarios, the tool can report inaccurate license denials. For more information, see the "Known limitation in license denial report" technical document.
License usage per user : This metric presents information about product usage by a user from a license server at a specified time. This list includes the user and the host server name for the selected products for the specified duration.
Available Licenses : This metric presents the total number of licenses for a product that are available in the license files that are used to start the license server.
License expiration : This metric presents the expiration date of licenses for each of the selected products. This information is collected from the license file.
Token distribution : This chart presents the number of token licenses that are issued in the specified time for various products in an organization.
Chargeback report : This metric represents a simple chargeback policy for product licenses that are used in an organization. The report for this metric is like an invoice, where the number of licenses that are used by each user during a specified time is listed. The number of license hours is multiplied by the unit costs that are associated with each license hour of that kind of license for that product. This product gives the value in currency to be charged for that user.
Note: For the Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM) products, the following metric types are supported:

The Tip of the Iceberg
Growing complexity in a heterogeneous environment is todays IT challenge, but there is nothing new about that! Maintaining a high availability of the IT-infrastructure often comes down to reactively fixing technical issues, involving many different parties and is an important responsibility of the organization’s IT-support team. However, these types of activities are just the tip of the iceberg. In order to maintain a high level of availability, the risk of having longer than expected downtime and loss of productivity is high when we turn to reactive support only. There is a lot more that organizations implement to reduce these risks.
For this, predictability is critical and by proactively avoiding risks, IT-support teams are much more capable of providing a robust environment to their users. Providing proactive support starts with planning initiatives and aligning any support related activities such as analyzing the impact of upgrades and migrations and coordinating knowledge transfer. To achieve this it is essential to have direct access to a large network of expertise and to bring teams and knowledge together. This allows for the successful setting of the right priorities and getting the right attention, which must be a collaborative effort of the organization and its suppliers.
The Rational Accelerated Value Program is designed to provide Essential Lifecycle Services that enhance and improve your productivity over the full range of the solution lifecycle. Don’t settle for the Tip of the Iceberg!

How about you knowing on what is the order number ( Sales Order number/Order ID ) for a record, under which these licenses are purchased, Or when the licenses that you purchased are expiring, in order to be prepared for renewing or purchasing a new set of licenses from IBM, Whether you are in a large enterprise with hundreds of users using multiple applications, or a small or medium business with a handful of users, you want to know this information for your investment decisions.
Let's understand the results of the license availability analysis, In order to reach here you may want to login to License key center, you will find “license availability report” on to your left under license management section.
A license availability report can be downloaded up to a maximum of 200 lines, please note that you might need to go to the next page to download additional lines.
The report will show you the number of licenses that you’ve registered and the number of licenses available. Please note that in some cases you have access to a lot of different product within the same or different part number. Depending on the complexity of work and projects associated with your organization, complexity of your environment also increases invariably. Your environment might include several tools to assist you in doing your daily job and this may include several products which fall under different category. For example : Change management, Requirements management, modeling tools, testing tools, development tools and so on.
These products may be Rational or Telelogic, Which falls under IBM Umbrella.
You might have to work with both Rational and the Telelogic products and you may very well be the license administrator and your areas of interest may include both Rational and Telelogic product licensing.
Though we have Rational and Telelogic products under the same Umbrella today IBM, there is a difference in the way the licensing works for Rational and Telelogic products.
We will unearth these differences in the working mechanism of the licenses for Rational and Telelogic products and try to understand how they work.
The following section briefs the working of Rational licenses and also throws some light on difference types of licenses available for Rational products
Floating licenses for Rational products are not tied to any version of the product. Floating licenses are always configured on a centralized Rational license key server and the clients are pointed to this license server to pick the licenses.
The scenarios where you are upgrading the client to a different version.
For example: If you are migrating the Rational software architect from version 7.0 to version 8.0 there is no need to update the license file as the floating licenses which you had configured to work with Rational software architect 7.0 will still work with Rational software architect version 8.0 as they are not specific to any version of the product.
But It is always recommended to have a version of the Rational license key server which was released post the release of the product.
Rational products also have authorized user licenses which are tied to a specific host and need no license server, Even authorized user licenses for a Rational product is not specific to any version.
Activation kits are available for SDP (software delivery platform) products (Rational) and only activation kits are specific to the version of the product and they need to be imported on the Installation manager.
Refer to the link below on how to configure an activation kit on Installation mana
Now as we have an understanding of how the licenses work for the Rational products, we will try to understand how the licenses work for the family of products previously known as Telelogic and what are the different Telelogic products which are available.
The below sections will give us a complete understanding of how the licenses for Telelogic products works.
Only for TELELOGIC family of products floating licenses and Authorized user licenses are not version independent and Telelogic products don't have the concept of activation kits.
Whenever the client or the product is upgraded we also have a need to update the license file to ensure that it has appropriate maintenance renewal to support the newer version of the product.
TELELOGIC family of products works on Date based concept of licensing and your license file will have a maintenance end date in it and only product versions released prior to that maintenance end date which is specified in your license file will work and any version of the product which was released post to the maintenance end date will not work.
For Example: If you have Rational Doors floating license file with an maintenance end date of 2010.01.01 (JAN-01-2010) this will not work with Rational Doors version 9.5 as Rational Doors version 9.5 was released post 2010.01.01 (JAN-01-2010).
To understand this concept of Date based concept of licensing in clear refer to the white paper link below on Understanding date based concept of licensing: http
Also refer to the link below on how to apply the maintenance renewals for the Telelogic family of products: http
Find the list of TELELOGIC products below and as mentioned they all work on date based concept of licensing.
