I'm excited to share a couple more changes with you regarding the Rational Twitter handle and YouTube channel, respectively. These changes will provide you with powerful support content for IBM Cloud Technical Support.
Starting on Monday, November, 14, 2016 our Twitter account/handle @rationalsupport will begin tweeting content from @IBM_CTS. We will leave @rationalsupport up with a pointer to @IBM_CTS for a bit so that you can follow the new handle.
The second change we'll make on November 14th is to begin posting new support videos on the IBMSupportTV channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/WebSphereEducation). Currently, we have 131 videos out on the Rational YouTube channel and those will continue to be available on that channel until they are all migrated to the IBM SupportTV channel. For this change, you will need to subscribe to the IBMSupportTV YouTube channel to continue to receive updates.
@IBM_CTS (Cloud Technical Support) is who we are and our support social channels will reflect that, in the robust content we will continue to provide. We're excited for these changes! Please let us know if you have questions by commenting on this blog or reaching out to us on any of our channels. We look forward to continue serving you up the most relevant technical content to make you successful.
How can I make an entry in the shipping_receipt_log file while importing sync packets using scheduler ? There will be cases where sync import will fail with receipt handler due to some reasons like missing dependent packets or network issue. In such cases, the import of the packets are done manually or through a scheduler. The applied sync packet details will not be logged in the shipping log file.
This script would help to import such packets in the incoming bay and will make an entry in the shipping_receipt_log for you. I hope you find this helpful!
1) The script can be scheduled using clearcase scheduler or crontab, so that if it finds any sync packets in the incoming bay it imports automatically making a entry in the shipping_receipt_log file.
2) Place the script in the desired location and save it with .sh extention.
Note: The following script is tested on Linux environment. When using the script on other Unix flavors, check if the mktemp command used in the script is supported.
# This is to log an entry in shipping_receipt_log while importing sync packets
# Common Variables
# This checks the storage bay from the conf file
Changing hostnames is a common need and a common question we get in support. Hostname changes can often become problematic if not done correctly. Luckily, we have a top notch support team ready to help! In this case, support engineer Mallikarjuna Manoj Kandala has authored the following developerWorks article outlining this process for Rational ClearCase:
How to change the hostname in the IBM Rational ClearCase environment - Making the task easier. The IBM Rational ClearCase environment is sensitive to any hostname changes on the system where the application is hosted. This article provides the steps to make the task easier for Rational ClearCase administrators. This article shows how to make changes to various server components of the IBM® Rational® ClearCase® environment, when the hosted system hostname changes. The content in this article applies to Rational ClearCase v8.0.0.x and higher, and only UNIX and Linux systems.
These are the top 20 technotes for RationalClearCase that were reused during the past month to help solve your PMRs. In January the following technotes were the most heavily reused when closing PMRs opened by you, our clients. We hope that highlighting them here will help others encountering the same or similar issues also find quick resolution:
With IBM® Rational® ClearCase® - Cadence Integration, IBM brings its enterprise configuration and change management solution to analog, radio frequency, or mixed signal designers using Cadence Design Framework. This allows you to take advantage of core capabilities of IBM Rational ClearCase, without leaving your familiar design environment. This integration allows custom chip designers to complete ClearCase actions while in the Cadence Design Framework II toolset. This makes parallel development, co-development, and co-management of hardware and software domains and artifacts possible. Having common SCM tools for hardware and software development results in more flexibility in system integration and offers several other advantages. The following article describes those advantages and some of the important features of the ClearCase-Cadence integration – Integrate IBM Rational ClearCase with Cadence Design Framework II
Some of the benefits offered by this integration are as follows:
Manage projects more efficiently with unified processes and tools
Reduce integration work by standardizing configuration management tools
Provide traceability with change management
Rich user interface support through Cadence Design Framework II Library Manager, ClearCase Work Area Manager & Command line interface
Instant-on workspace support access with ClearCase dynamic views
Data integrity with atomic check-in
Support for large design files
Using ClearCase MultiSite in a globally distributed environment
Checkout design files instantly through Synchronous Request for Mastership in a replicated environment
Hierarchy Manager interface to efficiently manage design hierarchy.
Starting with ClearCase 18.104.22.168 and ClearCase 22.214.171.124, the Cadence Design Framework integration is included with ClearCase as a component that can be installed as part of the ClearCase install with IBM Installation Manager. For information on installing and upgrading Cadence Virtuoso Integration, refer to Infocenter here. And for detailed system requirements refer here.
The latest fix-pack release includes the following new features:
The Library Manager > Design Manager menu and the ClearCase Work Area Manager > File menu include the new menu item Set config spec. By default, Set config spec initiates a reevaluation of the current config spec (refer to setcs -current). It can also be used to specify the path to a config spec and to set the config spec to its default values.
The ClearCase Work Area Manager > ClearCase drop-down menu now includes the menu item, Scan checkedout directories... In the absence of a context, this menu item scans all managed libraries for checked out directories. If a category is set as the context, scanning is confined to the cells and subcategories of that category. The results of a scan are displayed in a form that enables you to check in directories and cancel directory checkouts.
The ClearCase Work Area Manager context menu for cell views includes a new option, Show labels..., that displays all labels that are attached to the currently selected version of the cell view.
For more information about this release refer to the release notes here.

Clearcase Version Importer: Migrate to Rational Team Concert Source Control Management- A new, simpler tool for importing ClearCase version history into Rational Team Concert (RTC) was introduced in RTC 4.0.5. This is a new stand-alone tool that does not require ClearCase synchronization to be set up to use it. This presentation will first provide an overview of the difference between ClearCase and RTC SCM, then talk about the new migration tool and its enhanced capability in upcoming RTC release. You will understand how the tool can help you migrating the data successfully and it concludes with a live demo of the migration tool.

I have just been working on couple of IBM Rational ClearCase issues where a downgrade of the nfs version from nfs 4 was needed on their RHEL machines. So, I am sharing the info about the steps to downgrade the nfs version so that it can be handy if any of you also come across the same issues.
For example, when you run showmount -e, you will find the following output for the specific mount point:
RCSRHEL6164:/ccstg on /net/RCSRHEL6164/ccstg type nfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,intr,sloppy,vers=4,addr=126.96.36.199,clientaddr=192.168.199.253)
In the above we see that the mount point is using "vers=4" which stands for nfs 4
So if you have to downgrade to nfs 3, then do the following:
On the Server:
Edit /etc/sysconfig/nfs to have following lines:
