Within the industry, the debate about HTML5 as the implementation technology choice for mobile apps rages. My opinion is that, over the long run, HTML5 will be the standard for device OS agnostic mobile application development. But that point could be a few years away from now. In the meantime, is there an approach that bridges the gap between pure 100% native mobile app implementation and the current state of Web 2.0 & HTML5? Yes, it is possible to intelligently straddle these two extremes. Have a look at the solutions from people like Worklight. To me, this seems like a reasonable compromise that positions you for the future without sacrificing availability of your mobile app today.
What's your take? Nothing beats a native app? Web the only way to go? Or how about a compromise solution that avoids the dogma and just gets the job done?
