Let's now look at a product that compliments the Enterprise Service Bus. Lotus Expeditor integrator software provides a lightweight integration hub for remote locations - such as retail outlets, bank branches or remote offices. In this blog I'll explain some basic use cases of this product.
What is Lotus Expeditor Integrator?
As explained in the website: "Lotus Expeditor integrator software functions as a local concentrator for transactional messaging at each remote location. The software then provides intelligent routing and filtering of business events and data to the IBM WebSphere® Message Broker software at the central site."
Its a lightweight integration hub for reliable and secure data interchange. Requires minimal coding and configuration and near zero maintenance.
Where can this be used?
Retail stores: The communication between the retain stores and the enterprise backbone has to be reliable, manageable and secure with least resource consumption. Also there are hardware limitations in the store. Lotus Expeditor Integrator extends the reach for the applications and other process of a retail enterprise to retail stores.
The Messaging back-bone
Since this is a messaging blog, let's talk a little about the messaging backbone of Lotus Expeditor Integrator. Since its built on Lotus Expeditor it uses the bundles available in Lotus Expeditor client platform. Hence micro broker component of Lotus Expeditor provides messaging backbone. JMS clients of micro broker are used on the POS and the micro broker bridge communicates with enterprise backbone having WebSphere MQ. Most of the connection problems are taken care at the messaging level and micro broker's message persistence reduces impact on the business when there are network issues.
Most of the configuration is in the form of XML now and hence needs least programming for most parts. The product also has monitoring capabilities using Tivoli Monitoring adapters, deployment or roll-out can be facilitated using Lotus Expeditor Server. Other advantages include open standard support, common programming model, etc.
