Recently Data Integration Facility (DIF) http://www-03.ibm.com/products/retail/products/software/dif/features.html released a new version adding several capabilities. You can read about it in the PDF http://www-01.ibm.com/common/ssi/rep_ca/8/897/ENUS210-218/ENUS210-218.PDF
DIF runs on a 4690 POS controller and facilitates real-time visibility of transaction data. It developed in Java and comes with a API toolkit and a run-time process. It can convert POS data into XML and IXRetail and also translates IBM TLOG data to IXRetail POSLog formats. This can flow as messages between micro broker and WebSphere MQ assures once only delivery of this data (in the form of messages) from store to enterprise.
The micro broker is a component of Lotus Expeditor. In the new release of DIF (ie 2.1) this component is used for connecting to WebSphere MQ or another micro broker. Micro broker is a small lightweight messaging hub having the ability to bridge with WebSphere MQ or another micro broker. With this ability DIF product can forward and receive messages from message-oriented middle-ware. DIF also enables intra-store point to point exchange of messages between applications.
More to add the product enables monitoring of effectiveness of promotion and campaigns with realtime data fetched from the POS machines which can be analyzed in the enterprise with software built on WebSphere MQ. Also enables changes to the prices based on the sales results. In short, it expands opportunity to access POS data, making it more useful to the retailers.
