One of the largest advantages of WebSphere Portal is that it allows to create very robust portal solutions, especially due to the clustering capabilities, provided by WebSphere Application Server. In addition, there are a number of options to put WebSphere Portal in a Cloud:
- Use WebSphere Portal Hypervisor Edition, to utilize WebSphere Cloudburst as cloud platform.
- Use special installation of WebSphere Portal in IBM Smart Cloud.
- Create your own Cloud solution, using the platform of your choice (VMWare, System P, System Z) and flexibly manage performance by varying number of nodes in Portal Farm (staring from WP 7).
- And last, but not the least, use special installation of WebSphere Portal in Amazon EC2.
Recently I've found a grate demo, showing the advantages of WP Farming in Amazon cloud, especially in dynamically adopting to the current load by brining up and down the appropriate nodes in a farm.
