Each WAS InfoCenter is split up by product (WAS Base, WAS ND, IHS, etc.), and within some products, by operating system. That's why when you search for something, you might get duplicate results. For example, if you search for "distributed sessions" in the WAS 7 InfoCenter, you get seven duplicate results. If you hover over each one, you'll see why (one for distributed operating systems, one for z/OS, etc.). The WAS 8 InfoCenter will now group these, but for older InfoCenters, you can click on "Search Scope" to create a scope for only "Network Deployment (All Operating Systems)," which is basically a superset of everything for WAS (doesn't cover IHS, etc.).
When you click on any topic, at the bottom of the contents, you'll see something like:

This bolded part is the link you can send to colleagues or put into internal documentation. There are three query parameters:
Most customers will want to use was-nd-mp because it covers everything. I often see customers use links for Express or z/OS versions, which they probably got from a search engine result (the top result will be randomly picked from one of the products). Although rare, if you use information from another product or operating system than the one you're actually running, you could use the wrong information. For example, some defaults are different between z/OS and distributed operating systems (AIX, Linux, etc.). I also often see customers use links for different versions than the product they're using. This is more dangerous as things can change significantly between versions. If you use the above link format in documents, then it's easier to do a replace all ?version=compass with ?version=matt when you upgrade.
