How a big financial services company delivered a 400 percent application performance improvement
Big merger, new regulations and a 400% improvement in application performance?
See how one financial services company did it
When two financial services providers combined their Wealth Management division in a joint venture in 2009, they faced a new challenge – not only was there significant impact on the distributed source code, but they were now subjected to a different set of regulatory compliance mandates, including regulations from the US Federal Reserve and US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
They needed to achieve full integration, but do it while complying with the new regulations. It seemed like a daunting task. First, they had to create a list of every distributed and mainframe application delivered by the distributed source code and release management department, and second they needed to make the software development lifecycle auditable and traceable from production systems back to source code.
The company was able to realize a 400% improvement in application performance by implementing the newest version of IBM Rational Synergy. This dramatic gain had an enormous impact on the developers using the application. It typically took 12 hours to update an average-size project, but after the upgrade, developers needed an hour or less to update a project. And this performance improvement was especially impressive because the team using it doubled in size and adoption of the application increased by 500%.
Using Rational software gave the company’s distributed source code and release management department the insight it needed to track and measure the number of service requests and the amount of time to close them. And as a result their average service request turnaround time dropped from 44 hours to just six hours!
