|The session concluded with a look at a PHP based administration console called IDSAdmin. This has been demo'd previously at IOD, IDUG and tech fairs, but today was the first time it has been shown to a wider audience. IDSAdmin makes use of many of the new Cheetah administration features to allow a DBA to remotely administer and troubleshoot IDS servers. |
In the screen shot shown I added the latitude and longitude of the IDS server running on my laptop (via the Google Maps integration). This "eye-candy" feature can be useful when you're monitoring the status of many geographically dispersed servers.
IDSAdmin works by using the new task() and admin() UDRs, and queries to system tables - in other words anyone could use these UDRs and SQL queries to write similar customized administrative tools for IDS using PHP, JSP or the language of your choice.
Expect to see IDSAdmin on the Beta download site very soon.
