From Chris Testa, Team Cubes To Go
Well here is my first entry into our blog. For any of you that don't know and are curious my name is Chris Testa and I'm going to be a senior in Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland @ College Park next year. I'll recap the week for those who are interested:
On Tuesday we had Kevin Haas come in and talk about what its like to be involved in research at a large corporation like IBM. It was interesting to see how a researcher can be integrated into industry with the hopes of both doing something cool research wise, while also aiming to deliver a useful product in the future. On Wednesday the entire Extreme Blue group went to the annual intern BBQ at the Silicon Valley Lab (SVL). We sat around, ate some good food. Its always nice to sit outside in the sun after sitting in the office all day! Yesterday we had Marc McSwain come in and talk about patents and IP. I was really interested for this talk because I don't really know how to protect IP and it seems something that will be important to me in the future. It was a great talk and I learned a lot. I hope we get to patent something for our Cubes-To-Go project so I can get first hand experience in the patenting process.
So this week we have been preparing our system architecture for review by the Phoenix team next week. We did two architecture reviews before, so I think we should be prepared and know what we want to say. The big thing on everyone's mind right now is the Yosemite trip which we're leaving on in about an hour! I can't wait to hike half dome... the pictures look beautiful and I look forward to tackle the challenge. We're staying at a hostel nearby and have to drive 2 hours around a rock slide to get to the start of the trail in tomorrow morning. I am definitely not on Long Island anymore!
Time to go eat some lunch and go on the trip.
