Students around the world called to collaborate with IBM in developing new innovations
IBM announced that it will sponsor the Cell/B.E. University Challenge '07 starting February 5. It's the first contest IBM has sponsored focusing on the Cell Broadband EngineTM ("Cell/B.E.") processor. Students from the United States toChina will have the opportunity to apply their skills and innovativethinking to compete for cash prizes and accolades.
The contest will give students a chance to gain hands-on experiencewith the Cell/B.E. processor technology, which IBM hopes will be thestandard bearer for years to come. The contest will also provide anopportunity to gain real-life, multi-disciplinary skills that will givethese students a competitive edge as they move from the classroom tothe workforce. To participate in this two-part challenge, students mustcomplete an online quiz testing their knowledge of Cell/B.E. trivia. They must then develop an innovative software program based onCell/B.E. technology. The top competitors will be crowned in the secondhalf of 2007 in two worldwide regions.
How does this relate to Extreme Blue?
Extreme Blue interns participate as members of a team working to develop the technology and business plan for a new product or service that addresses an existing market challenge. They understand technology for technology's sake, but also learn to recognize and value the ability to apply technological disciplines to business problems. IBM is sponsoring the contest to uncover fresh talent, as well as topromote skills that will define the jobs of the 21st century.Successful contestants will be adept in problem-solving, criticalthinking and technical analysis – exactly the type of skills Extreme Blue looksfor in intern candidates.
