This was one thing that we do more often, pulling installation files from peers and most of them have windows running on their system. So the solution was to mount the remote system into a local folder mount -t cifs -o user=username //ip.ad.dr.ess/share /tmp/remoteshare/ Then you can navigate to /tmp/remoteshare to access the files.
At a time of almost unprecedented financial volatility a growing numbers of individuals and companies are now embracing alternate financial models which seem to provide better stability. The business model that exists today makes use of the common financial methodology, would they be able to take advantage of these alternate financial models? Looking from another perspective the enterprises that provide the common financial services, is their business model agile enough to provide an alternate business process to take advantage of these... The enterprise parking in cloud would open next level of patterns in partner and customer collaboration. This would require the applications exposed on such a platform to be 1. Adhering to standards for message interaction 2. Flexibility to move the app from one location to other in the cloud seamlessly or bring sections of the cloud to the app 3. Use of gradients within cloud that would specify secure zone, non secure zones or platinum zones for higher service levels and how they inter relate inter operate and interact. Personal apps can be... [More]
My Humble Requests to all my brothers. 1. Keep away from being instigated by any one to upset peace, spread mistrust or doubt. 2. What ever is happening with some IT professionals now is to reflect on our youth and prevent them being misguided from providing peace and prosperity for the whole mankind. 3. Some one may not be treating you in a not so good manner, you may be oppressed but be patient and do an activity that promotes peace not the ones that upset peace. 4. Let any one accuse you put you to trouble as long as you are clean all will... [More]
After 3 weeks of trips from home to office 3 trips per week total 9 trips = 126 KM. Applying SOA to the experience Initially the Waist and Trousers were tightly coupled, now they have become loosely coupled. Increased flexibility and agility :- Infrastructure services performance increased with better ROI (physical and mental) During the initial implementation phases, the performance was not good enough even -[just]out of the box- services and -legacy services- were performing better [ even kids and old people where overtaking ] But as... On a very simplistic level lets look at SOA SOA for business implies a set of service that business would like to expose SOA for IT means a way to link/connect services to support business. SOA purists might say, Batch Processing and SOA are meant for different things. But what if your client says, I run my core business in Batch, and i want to expose it as a service. Some times I imagine keeping goal on a penalty shoot out, the striker is supposed to use his right leg and strike the ball towards my right side. I dive and I save, the stadium... [More]

Bike2Work Support. Does anyone know the state of bike storage, showers, etc at the Cascade office in Colorado Springs? I'm considering riding in but haven't been there in ages to know how bike friendly it is. -------- Does anyone commute by bike from the White Plains, NY area to any of the local IBM sites (Armonk/NC, Hawthorne, or even Yorktown or NYC)? I work from home, however I like to head out to an IBM mobility center (along with wifi cafes, etc) every so often, to break up the monotony. I am hoping there are some bike commuters out there... First challenge after initial setup with linux was internet connection. My tataindicom USB Modem does not have a dialer for linux like the ones they have for XP. After much exploring and testing out various sites came to the following procedure that worked for me. First step is to find out the device mount point for the modem. For this i went to /dev directory and did an 'ls tty*' then plugged in the USB modem and did 'ls tty*'. /dev/ttyACM0 was new in the list so this must be the USB modem. Second step is to edit /etc/wvdial.conf to [Dialer... [More]
There is a cyclic phenomenon, like the seasons, winter comes you cannot say for it to stay back and ‘come again another day’. Imagine some one landing from South Africa in December into a snowfall scenario, he has all the gear to keep himself warm, but the roads are blocked with snow and there is no idea where the road is. Then only option left to do is dig out the road first then move, just to be sure that you are ‘on the way’. Documenting architecture, governance of architecture, models, work products, traceability, NFR’s sounds very... [More]
Its been ten years, remembering the days using fdisk to partition the hard disk. Then it was like open heart surgery, will the hard disk boot up for next restart? Bootable DOS disk was always ready by the side just in case something goes wrong. Then finally one fine day the system rebooted and the screen showed LILO boot ..... Linux was booting. It is human nature to long for clarity and open-ness may be one of the reasons why opensource cliked. Then it was desktops, applications simpler, but customers preferences required a shift away from... [More]
It was an honor, when Naveen Sachdeva kindly agreed to be mymentor. He convinced and strengthened me to take upideas, share them at the right platform, identify, take up initiatives, anddeliver them passionately, Naveen exhibited these higher traits within himself. That made it easier for me to assimilate at least a small fraction of that from his mentorship. He wrote this mail during his last week in IBM (19/06/2008) “ It was my honor to be yourmentor. I am very happy and proud to see that you have done well and wish youall the best. ” The... [More]
As of now things are working fine, but there was a requirement i have my lotus notes email on windows as well as on linux, both has the separate replica files which means one will be always latest. So there should be a way to update the old file with the latest which ever may that file be. Do architects write code? well i do, and i feel its one of the way you express yourself, express your logic in a different way. There is one big IF to my coding :), the interest should come from within :). This is the code, it compares two files, finds which... [More]
SAP is one of IBM’s key partners in our eco-system; the growth of our partners reflects the growth we share. We were showcasing “Business Process Management Enabled by SOA” (IBM Websphere Registry and Repository, SAP Enterprise Services Repository) in SAP Tech Ed 2007 Bangalore. SOA as an architectural style is maturing, the levels of that maturity becomes visible with the validations performed on the project itself. Throughout the lifecycle of an SOA project, which IBM advocates as MADM-G, Model, Assemble, Deploy, Manage and Govern, this... [More]

SOA, its principles, the comprehensive set of methodologies IBM has for SOA [SOMA, SGMM,SIMM,CBM,EA etc] are the assets which are out there to solve the issues of the business. Is SOA just for the elite because of the experties needed and the cost involved? Is SOA an option for the Masses, irrespective of expertise and cost can everyone grab a bite of SOA to start with? Right now i am bundling SOA out with these two perspectives, the first cut of offering is now available for India.
SOA begins its cursory attention when a stakeholder begins to think 'i have to optimize' or 'i have to reduce cost and complexity', ' i have to have my IT systems responsive to change faster and on demand, for the above needs'. So what are my options ? SOA can do that. SOA can be tailored to those needs. SOA for Masses Step One - Ask yourself can I meet Mr Customers need taking the SOA route? How can I be sure ? Can I document that?
SOA is one of the right ways of architecting, but if not done in a right way this could end up as a pile of services with limited Business to IT alignment, flexibility and agility. As a part of SOA Leadership center at IBM, SOA Governance initiative plays a pivotal role in ensuring success of SOA based implementations. The SOA Governance initiative would address two primary concerns- methodology and automation. Methodology because one has to know the right way of doing things, who does that, how it is done, and how to measure it. Automation... [More]
Since the launch of program from SOA Leadership center andworking with IBM partners, from an enablement of strategy as well as mentoringaspects. The impact that IBM's SOA Governance makes is tremendous, from growthand maturity for an enterprise, for new opportunities on process engineering,IT architecture, automation and SOA Tooling. A glimpse of the opportunities are available in this article , we plan exploremore along the same line in future.
An SOA initiative happens in an environment of business need, organizational dynamics, IT infrastructure, business model, skill pool, organizational structure, functional-non functional-operational aspects etc. Every one of these factors drives and controls the success or failure of SOA. SOA Governance hooks on to these ‘driving factors and controls’ to ensure success; if such an initiative is ineffective then SOA would become DOA (dead on arrival). Sight of these drivers in an enterprise enables governance practitioner to ensure, confirm... [More]
Over a thousand of early SOA adopters has benefited from IBM in the SOA landscape. The rich pool of expertise, knowledge base and experience has led to the formation of SOA leadership center (SLC). The SLC would accelerate SOA implementation; demonstrate the value of SOA, support SOA implementations by sharing expertise and technical guidance, enlightenment on Smart SOA approach and IBM offerings, working with universities on SOA curriculums. SLC would also enable essential governance, security and management. Going forward the SLC would become... [More]
WebSphere Service Registry and Repository enables you to load, change, and retrieve policy documents. Policy lookup uses a new policy resolution primitive in WebSphere ESB V6.2, and it retrieves policy for a particular service or operation based on the gate conditions built using values from the message, and associates a specific policy with a runtime instance. This article shows you how to use the policy resolution primitive for policy lookup from WebSphere Service Registry and Repository, and how to control message content and mediation flow... [More]

Data is a collection of facts from which conclusions may be drawn; data is not just about facts and figures. For conclusions to be drawn the data must represent something, for a bird building its nest the data is aspects could be visual representation that how good the nest looks, the purpose it has to serve, comfort feeling that how much comfortable is a completed nest to the one whose work is in progress. These data then makes it easy for the bird to decide that its nest is done. Data Representation The representations of data are varied... [More]
Having not read this book would not make your life tougher, independent of the role you would be playing in an IT organization. But If the involvement you have in projects spans across full lifecycle of the project, the risk on the project is high, the team size is less than 13, enforce quality of code and faster releases in short time then this book is worth the read. Having implemented this methodology and then having tasted success in that project, provides the self assurance that this works and works well. The life of XP is like shown below... [More]
