A fast path to getting started with IBM SmartCloud Application Workload Services

The objective of this blog entry is to provide you with the understanding and steps of how to get started with IBM SmartCloud Application Workload Services (SCAWS) to launch and provision an service instance with IBM Workload Deployer.

To access this service, you must submit a request invite to try out the IBM Expert Hub to receive temporary access; the Request an invite button (Figure 1)

Once you receive your confirmation and access from the SmartCloud Trial administrator, go to the SmartCloud Enterprise SCE login page and authenticate with userid/password provide by the administrator (Figure 2).

The service instance you create can be managed with the IBM SmartCloud Application Workload Service.
On the next screen (Figure 4), enter the name and a brief description of your instance and click the Next icon.

Now you will be prompted for a password to login to the SCAWS (Figure 5) after which you can click on the Next icon and a confirmation screen will display. Please note this password will used to managed the IBM SmartCloud Application Workload Service with the userid cbadmin.
Please go ahead and read the Terms and Conditions page before submitting your confirmation . Once everything is satisfactory, you can continue by Agreeing and submitting your request.
If you click on back to Control panel tab, you will notice you have access to a new account and also that the account will provision for a few hours before you can start managing new IBM SmartCloud Application Workload Service instance (Figure 6).

Once the IBM SmartCloud Application Workload Service is provisioned, click on Control panel > Service Instances and then click on the service name you provided for your instance.
It may take a 30 seconds or so, but you will see the following screen (Figure 7):

If you see the status Unknown, please click on Manage service instance; you will be prompted to accept a certificate. Once you accept, it will be bring up the IBM SmartCloud Workload Services instance. Your status should change to Active.
Now you can go and manage your virtual application pattern and/or virtual systems pattern using the Manage service instance.
