The GenericCsv collector is a collector which is written in Perl. This collector uses a few CSV files as its data files, in contrast to communicating with an external data source, such as an EMS, to obtain data. Nevertheless, it is still an excellent code base for creating a real life collector which uses a set of CSV files whose contents are being generated by an external source, such as from an EMS by being transferred via FTP at specific intervals. Having said that, we are just going to run it without modifications for now.
You should set up the environment before running the GenericCsv collector. The following steps contain the details:
ncp_perl main.pl -cfg Gene
The collector should produce an output similar to the following:
Starting collector... GenericCsv LoadDeviceList() @ 1349237565 GenericCsv LoadInterfaceList() @ 1349237565 GenericCsv Dete
By now the collector is running and ready to be discovered by ITNM.
To discover the collector, modify Disc
//insert into coll
Within the Network Discovery Configuration of ITNM GUI, ensure that the collector discovery agents are enabled:
Perform discovery and create a network view of type Filtered with the following settings:
You should get a similar network topology as in the following:
