On Friday last week we officially announced the new version of ILOG BRMS and Business Events: IBM WebSphere Operational Decision Management V7.5 (WODM V7.5).
This has been an epic release for the team as it entailed integrating people and technology from the IBM WebSphere Business Events product and ILOG BRMS as well as creating a new execution capability for zSeries. WODM V75 allows business users to govern their event and business rules within the same powerful repository using the Decision Center web user interface. The repository now supports concurrent streams of development, allowing business users to make speculative changes within their own private sandbox (good for simulation!) or for teams to work on V1.6 and V2.0 concurrently -- branching changes from V1.6 out to V2.0 and then periodically merging changes from V2.0 back into V1.6. We include business friendly visual difference and merge tools for rules artifacts to make the process safe and painless.
zRule Execution Server for z/OS is a new execution capability that provides excellent connectivity between COBOL (CICS or batch) and a specialized Rule Execution Server for zOS. The engineers at the Hursley lab in the UK and the China Development Center in Shanghai bring their deep zOS experience to bear for BRMS customers!
We now support deploying Java XOMs dynamically out to the RES, including HTDS support for Java XOM.
Better support for Dynamic Domains, including (finally!) out of the box support for defining a domain in an Excel spreadsheet.
On the events side of the house the changes are dramatic: we've moved the technical tools from a Windows application to Eclipse, and event rules now benefit from the ILOG BRMS vocabulary technology. Developers now have an Event and a Rule perspective within their Eclipse shell, allowing them to easily switch between projects and tasks. A shared Decision Center is used for authoring and governing both event rules and action rules. Business Event Processing finally gets the governance tools it needs and deserves!
Clearly we are very excited about this release, however most of the developers have been working on the next release for several weeks already... I wish I could tell you more, but rest assured, we are not done yet! :-)
