I've always wanted to make a VIO server a client of another VIO server. It would make a VIOS update so much easier without the need for a NIM server or physical media. It would mean you could upgrade VIOS2 from installation media loaded into the Virtual Media Repository of VIOS1, and then do the reverse. <br /> http://ibm.co/PwRtfA <div>&nbsp;</div> Not supported, but very clever discovery.

Anthony, <br /> Thanks for the comment and sharing the link to your blog posting. I updated the posting and put a link to your "Could a vanilla VIOS installation be simplified?" at the top. <div>&nbsp;</div> Thanks, <br /> Brian

Nice one! <div>&nbsp;</div> If only IBM provided a supported way of achieving this capability. <div>&nbsp;</div> One day perhaps?

At least we know it is possible and that the architecture of the Power system supports it. Maybe one day IBM will support it, at least in limited circumstances like the virtual optical.
