Our party was led past all of the other tables to the perfect table right in front of the huge window overlooking mountains and the lake. The table that surely required fame or a green bill of some sort. And then the maitre d' said, "You're the Kennedys, right ?"
Which is exactly what could be said about Sun's new claims in their latest announcement of new processors. Sun compares their SAP SD 2-tier benchmark which used 32 cores and 256 threads with the latest IBM POWER6 result using 8 cores and 16 threads. The Sun result needed 4 times the main memory of the IBM result. If you look at these two results per core, the IBM result was actually 3.17 times greater performance than the Sun result. (1)
I made sure to tell them that we were not the Kennedys. And they didn't move us to the table by the kitchen. I do wonder where the Kennedys sat that night.
