Last month I posted an article in this blog where I talked about the hot topics in WebSphere MQ (WMQ): What's Hot in the WebSphere MQ World?
This month I decided to do something similar for WebSphere Message Broker (WMB). I did some more research to find out which technotes were being referenced most in problems records opened with the WMB support team. I followed a similar strategy as the one I used in WMQ and eliminated the Mustgather technotes
which outline the information necessary to investigate any problem and so they are referenced frequently. I also eliminated technotes with fix lists and download instructions
or system requirements
because those are mentioned very often as well. The result is a list of technotes which WMB users and support have been talking about in problem records over the past 3 months (April, May and June 2012).
Here are the top 5 topics discussed in WMB problem records, along with a few bonus items, just for good measure:
- IH03: WebSphere Message Broker V7-Message display, test & performance utilities
As the name suggests, this SupportPac contains utilities that WMQ and WMB developers can use for testing. This is one of the most popular SupportPacs and it has been updated several times since it was first introduced in October 2000.
- Knowledge Collection: Security for WebSphere Message Broker
Security is very commonly a hot topic and this Knowledge Collection is a good starting point to find out what WMB technotes are available. As a bonus, there are a couple of specific items that were referenced quite frequently. They are both webcast replays that have been around for a long time but they both were still referenced several times recently in problem records.
Bonus Item: Webcast replay: Implementing SSL with HTTP nodes in WebSphere Message Broker V6.x
Bonus Item: Webcast replay: WebSphere Message Broker V6.1 - Security in SOAP nodes
- Use the Windows Event Viewer to view the Message Broker application log
Windows users like using the Event Viewer and this item explains about finding and reviewing WMB error messages using the Windows Event Viewer.
- Knowledge Collection: Installation for WebSphere Message Broker
With the fairly recent availability of WebSphere Message Broker V8 WMB users are finding installing and migrating to be a popular topic of conversation lately and this Knowledge Collection is a good starting point for finding what technotes are published on this topic. There are a couple of Installation items that are specifically being referenced often in recent problem records, so here are two bonus items on this topic:
Bonus Item: Installing and updating a fix pack or interim fix for WebSphere Message Broker Toolkit Version 6.1, Version 7.0 and Version 8.0
Bonus Item: Fixpack capability level in WebSphere Message Broker
- Olson timezone support for WebSphere Message Broker
When AIX 6.1 started to provide Olson time zone support, WMB users wanted to know what they needed to do for it to be supported in WMB. This technote answers those questions.
I hope this list of topics was informative or maybe revealed some topics you were not expecting to see here. The WMB support team also uses Twitter and Facebook to talk about new topics. You can follow us on Twitter and fan us on Facebook
to keep updated with news related to WMB, but if there is something else you want to talk about in WebSphere Message Broker, please let me know.
