Replay: DS8700 Easy Tier
Broadcast date: Tuesday 22nd June 2010
IBM Easy tier enables DS8700 Users to Optimize Use of Solid State Drives
Solid state drives (SSDs) are a hot topic in IT organizations because of their potential to dramatically improve storage performance. An inhibitor to general adoption has been how to effectively and efficiently use SSDs relative to the cost of SSDs vs HDDs. IBM DS8700 users now have the tools in Easy Tier and its associated Storage Tier Advisor Tool to evaluate the benefits, plan for, deploy, and manage on an ongoing basis SSDs in combination with existing HDDs.
will focus on the continual workload analysis of the no charge Easy Tier
function on the DS8700 along with the Storage Tier Advisor Tool to dynamically
manage the appropriate placement of data on SSDs or HDDs based on the actual
I/O patterns measured.

Title: TPC 4.1.1 Performance Management enhancements and demonstration
Broadcast date: Tuesday 30th March 2010
The webinar includes:
TPC 4.1.1 – review of the significant new performance metrics, alerts, thresholds and filters.
Demo of using the new "volume utilization" metric.
Demo of the Storage Optimizer.
Comparison of the storage optimizer's recommendations with findings using "volume utilization" metric.
Positioning the use of filtered reports, alerts, SAN Planner and Storage Optimizer.
Title: Ten Things for the new TPC Administrator to do to make TPC 4.1.1 more useful
Broadcast date: Tuesday 22nd April 2010
The webinar includes:
Use the Configuration Utility to verify everything is running as expected within TPC.
Verify discovery, probes, scans and quotas are set to run regularly for all managed devices.
Set key system-wide disk, data and fabric thresholds.
Identify and define additional thresholds and reports to support two or three “loved ones.”
Gather performance baselines.
Regularly review the incoming alerts.
Configure automatic Snapshots (then explore Change History).
Test-drive Data Path Explorer, identify potential bottlenecks, look for puzzling paths (try this for your “loved ones” first).
Create a volume report filtered on I/O Rate and Response Time.
Use a thoughtful naming convention for MDGs/MDisks/VDisks/Volumes/Operating System Disk names.

What's New in the DS3000 Disk Family?
Broadcast Date: Tuesday August 3rd 2010
This presentation will introduce the industry leading storage device based on SAS II (6Gbps) host and drive connectivity. The DS3500 will support SAS II, SAS II with iSCSI, or SAS II with Fibre Channel host connectivity. The Drive back end loops are all SAS II (6 Gbps) which with SAS II technology can produce up to 24 Gbps per loop. We have merged the host connectivity of the DS3200 (SAS I), DS3300 (iSCSI), and DS3400 (Fibre Channel) into one new product (DS3500). We will discuss the different controller models (DS3512 & DS3524), expansion enclosures (EXP3512 & EXP3524), 2.5 inch, 3.5 inch drives, new Storage Manager, and new premium features available on the DS3500.
