I have been trying to figure out for the last few months what to write my new blog about. I decided that I would create a running series of tips and tricks that can be used in Maximo and do a running entries as I learn them. So my first entry will be today about the item master application and adding a new asset taking into account the default stock categories.
In Maximo 7 we have the ability to set the default stock category in the Organizations applications:
The default stock category set in the... [More]

The First thing we want to do is create a new continuous meter for your refrigerant. The unit of measure for this meter will be ounce.
Next we can add a new item to inventory for the refrigerant so that we can issue this item to the asset. Associate the meter you... [More]

After upgrading to Maximo 7.5 many clients have decided to keep on using Issues and Transfer application. One of the reasons for using Issues and Transfer application instead of the new Inventory Usage application is due to training issues. Users do not want to learn a whole new application and business owners do not want to spend money on training.
However, Inventory usage application is actually quite easy to use and it offers all the features available in Issues and Transfer application.
It happens all too often, we lose track of time and we sometimes forget to do some important task. Commonly heard: "I forgot to get milk!" or "Did you remember to pick up the dry cleaning?" or "It's January 15th! I was supposed to zero out Maximo's inventory balances on January 1st!" The last one might not come up in your day to day lives, but for a Maximo inventory manager it is something that surely has happened (or will). The Zero Year to Date Quantities action is used to reset the counter of inventory... [More]

rotating inventory functionality. The surprise comes from the fact
that this functionality has been in the product since at least the days of
3.x (maybe earlier...anyone have a copy of 2.1.1 and can tell me?)
customers are looking to implement or expand their usage of rotating
inventory so it seemed appropriate to provide a bit more information on
what all this rotating stuff is about. So what
is a rotating item? Functionally, it is an item record that... [More]
