Maximo Mobile 7.5.1 has just recently been released and in
addition to being supported on Windows and Windows Mobile devices, it can now
be run on Android phones and tablets. This is great news for many clients who
have had trouble finding mobile devices they are happy with. Android offers a
number of options from ruggedized devices to phones and tablets. With this
Android support, we can also support voice to text data entry, taking pictures
with the camera and having them become attachments without having to leave the
application and using the device’s camera to scan bar codes.
One big advantage of Android is the performance the users
will see on the device. Because modern Android devices come with much more
memory and faster processors than typical Windows Mobile devices, the
applications run much, much faster. The touch screens of Android devices also
offer a much more user friendly experience than the small screens on Windows
Mobile devices and the difficulty using their styluses.
In addition to support for Android, we have also added RFID
support for Symbol Windows Mobile scanners and audit history support for Asset
Auditing in the Mobile Asset Manager application. We also added the ability to
automatically change the status of work orders to in progress and complete when
you use the start/stop timer buttons. Labor assignments can also now be managed
on the device so the user can re-assign and un-assign work that they are not
able to perform.
If you are already using Maximo Mobile, you should seriously
consider upgrading to Maximo 7.5.0.3 so you can take advantage of these
benefits. If you are thinking about introducing Mobile into your organization, this new
Android release will knock your socks off.
