It’s stalagmites reaching over a winding river into the mountains of Arizona. It’s a family of dolphins laughing. It’s a cool rock in the woods.
Remember stopping to really take a look at something – whether it was a rock or a cloud – and everyone would guess what they saw? We don’t want you to guess what TCR is, so today’s Bilog will review what it is and how you can enable it.
TCR stands for Tivoli Common Reporting. Beginning with the Maximo 188.8.131.52 released in December 2009, an integration to the Cognos Reporting Products was enabled. You can enable the Maximo Cognos Integration in two different ways - either through your existing license of Cognos Reporting, or through TCR. If you use your existing license of Cognos to integrate with Maximo, this is called the Direct Integration. If you use TCR to enable the use of Cognos with Maximo, this is called the Indirect Integration. These 2 options are highlighted here
If you are interested in using Cognos reporting with the Maximo releases, but do not have Cognos reporting licenses, TCR may be a good option for you. It enables you a license to the Cognos Reporting products for Tivoli Software Products only.
To use TCR, you would first download it via IBM’s Passport Advantage site. Next, you would execute its separate install, which also installs the Cognos Reporting Products. After successfully performing the TCR install, you would then perform the Maximo-Cognos integration install – which enables functionality including the security group synchronization and publishing of Report Object Structures as Cognos metadata or packages. You can find the details on the integration installation here
Determining which integration option is best for you, depends on your unique business environment. The chart below highlights a few of the advantages of each integration option that you may want to take into consideration.
If you have existing Cognos licenses, utilizing the Maximo-Cognos direct integration will give you the most flexible, streamlined integration.
If you do not have Cognos licenses, and utilize multiple Tivoli Products, utilizing TCR can enable you to begin working with the Cognos Reporting Products.
