At 7 feet wide by 8 feet deep, and housed in a former shed on a tomato farm in Ochopee, Florida, is the smallest post office in the United States. Located in the Florida Everglades, Ochopee is home to a multitude of snakes and alligators, but its post office is only big enough for a single postal clerk!
While the post master of Ochopee may not be considering an upgrade due to the sentimental value of their facility, you may be considering an upgrade from Version 7.1x to Version 7.5. If so, you may want to review the review the items below for a listing of recommendations and reporting best practices which can also be found here.
Backup Your Files
Before performing an upgrade, make sure to back up your report directories from the V71x database, and also your report source. Remember - during the install process of Version 7.5x, any new reports that have been added to the release are brought in thru the install. Any updates that have been made to existing report design files - either delivered or your custom report design files - must be brought in thru the Import Command Utilities.
You can find details on recommendations for backing up your files here

It is recommended that you utilize two instances of BIRT designer until your upgrade to Version 7.5 is complete. The first instance is your existing 7.1 instance, which is configured to use the 7.1 libraries and scripting classes. The second would be a new 7.5 instance, still using BIRT 2.3.2, but configured to use the 7.5 libraries and scripting classes.
New Version 7.5 features
In Version 7.5, you can enable the display of RTF (Rich text formatting) in the long description fields of your reports. Each of the delivered reports that use long descriptions (LD) have been updated so RTF displays in the LD. However, if you have any custom reports with LD fields - they should upgrade the these custom reports. Details enabling RTF in your custom reports can be found in the V75 Report Development Guide, beginning on page 60, located here
