The WebSphere Portal Blog

Apologies to Steppenwolf (am I showing my age?) for hacking their song title...but as Bill Swatling mentioned in his entry about the Portal Excellence Conference, WebSphere Portal once again has been placed in the most favorable position in the annual Magic Quadrant for Horizontal Portals recently issued by Gartner (17 September 2009).
I believe this makes 8 straight years that IBM has held the most favorable position in the annual report, none of which would be possible without our WebSphere Portal customers and business partners. Why? Well, because to hold the position you have to consistently demonstrate the "ability to execute" in the delivery of Web portal software, all while having a "completeness of vision" (those two things represent the X & Y axes of the quadrant). Our customers, partners, and of course the innovative IBMers involved with portal, help set the vision for WebSphere Portal - which in turns drives us to execute to help answer that vision. How is the vision communicated to us? Well, there are many ways....you can let us know what you want and think when we meet at the various IBM and other conferences; you can drop comments and ideas in this and other WebSphere Portal-specific blogs and discussion forums; you can reach out to your IBM and/or business partner sales & technical contacts, etc.
We always like to hear about new and interesting uses of Web portal technology that address and help solve business problems, and often our customers know that before we do...no "Abracadabra" necessary! (OK, at least this time my cultural reference jumped from the 60's to the 80's!).
