Is IBM HTTP Server free to deploy?

I occasionally get asked as to the licensing restriction around using the "free" IBM HTTP Server, and particularly what you need in terms of support
After all, IBM HTTP Server is free to download.
However, in order to get support, you need to use it in conjunction with another IBM product
Let's take a deployment with WebSphere Application Server by way of example
It's all wrapped up in the legalise I'm afraid, but if you take a look at the license doc found at: http
It confirms1 - IHS is licensed for use with a WAS environment
2 - IHS is not used to determine the number of licenses needed for WAS (i.e. free to deploy)
3 - There is no restriction placed on the number of IHS instances deployed. This is not explicit, but implied because where there are restrictions (e.g. for edge components), these are listed.
So you can use and be supported for as much as you want, as long as it is used with, in this case, WAS.
