Keep on Learning
One of the more valuable pieces of content that IBM provides for free is its best practice information that is produced by experts. The best practices cover many products and different features of each product. Many are also available in video format so you can take a break from all the reading that is required in the job of a DBA!
Announcing the latest in a series of webcast videos presented by DB2 Expert John Campbell.
Application Best Practices Specific to DB2 for z/OS Data Sharing
Running applications in a data sharing environment generally follows the same best practices as running any DB2 for z/OS application. Applications have a role to play in continuous availability. Only relatively minor changes are required to avoid locking hot spots. This presentation explores specific best practices of application design and database design in a data sharing environment. It drills into the topics of locking considerations, high-volume inserts, sequential keys, bind options, and batch processing. It also describes how to deploy applications in a data sharing environment with minimal down time.
This webcast is now available via the DB2 for z/OS Best Practice community. It includes the video (either download or stream from YouTube), transcript, and slides. If you stream from YouTube, you can view in HD with Closed Captions either on or off.
Keep the DB2 for z/OS Best Practice community website as a bookmark and visit often as there are many gems waiting for you to discover!

The DB2 for z/OS Best Practices developerWorks Webpage contains many recommendations by subject matter experts on how to best use DB2 for z/OS. Two DB2 for z/OS Distinguished Engineers, John Campbell and Haakon Roberts, recently recorded some of their popular presentations outlining best practices when using DB2:
The following four titles draw on John's experiences working with customers. They summarize his recommendations in these functional areas of DB2 for z/OS.
One other best practice worth mentioning is titled "Finding Information Fast and Efficiently". This short recording is valuable to quickly learn how to use the DB2 for z/OS Information Center. This recording explains the Information Center via a demonstration. One of the quickest ways to learn the Information Center features is to watch and listen to someone else showing how to use the software. I'm sure you will learn something new in this 12 minute video.
The DB2 for z/OS team would like to hear from you on what additional best practice content you would like and your thoughts about the ones that have been published. Please send an email to email@example.com to let them know.
Thanks to David Salinero for giving me the heads up about this incredible information that is available for free.
