Today’s DB2Night Show featured the top 10 contestants who were chosen by the judges in February. They each had four minutes to impress the audience and replay listeners. That’s correct. This time the judges are giving feedback, but are not choosing the best competitor. I must say that I’m very glad I’m not choosing the best. If you were in the audience today or if you listen to the replay, you’ll see what I mean: All presenters were incredible Lots of learning happening today!
Here’s a summary:
The Fragmentation of DBADM
Noticed in DB2 9.7. DBADM is still a superuser of sorts, but there are granularities. SECADM and DATAACCESS authorities were added. Great presentation on the permissions for each user type. Great information presented in an educational fashion. AND, she finished in time.
Simple Steps for Substantially Reducing report execution time in a Data Warehouse Environment.
Great graphics, very clear description of the problem and how to fix it.
How to Configure an Efficient HA and DR on DB2 10.1
I like that the tradeoffs slide: puts the problem in perspective. Clear description of the solution. Seems like this could be a common problem that needs to be solved: good reasons to upgrade to V10!
Getting Siblings to Talk - Federating DB2 LUW and DB2 for i
Synchronized DB2 LUW on AIX to their legacy iseries system. Very good description on Federation and how it is set up.
My New Moving Vehicle DB2MOVE "With more POWER and Less Gas"
Lots of situations when you'd use DB2MOVE. Good description on what the command does, its options, actions and how to use them.
How do you work with Application Development to Ensure Performance
What do you do when performance problems arises after new features are added? Problem well defined and quantitative results shown.
SQL Performance Tuning using MQT Part 2
Interesting scenario created to define problem and how it was analyzed and solved using MQT. And... he spelled cheque correctly! Way to go!
Temporal Data Management in DB2 for z/OS
Good definitions and contrast between snapshot and temporal. Lots of details in the scenario that shows the problem and how it is solved. The topic was too large to complete in time.
DML = Data Manipulation Scanner. Great presentation style. I like how different approaches were discussed with pros & cons. Good use of examples and sample code.
The 8 Selects that All DBAs Want to Have
Unfortunately Juliano did not show up today. So without Juliano, we had 9 great presentations today.
Who was the best? Listen to the replay and VOTE. Remember if you complete the survey at the end of the replay, you’ll have a chance to win an amazon.com gift certificate.
Thanks to all the presenters for your hard work on creating these great presentations.
