As I have mentioned in prior posts here, I help run (find speakers, chair sessions) and also do a lot of speaking at SHARE. SHARE is fundamentally a very large user group that meets twice a year. Last week we met in Boston. A lot of the folks attending are there because they use IBM mainframe systems but they are not afraid of, nor ignorant of the latest technologies and trends. I help run the WEBS (Web and e-Business) track. The focus of the WEBS track is on things like XML, Web Services and SOA. It was a really good week, a lot of very good speakers came in a gave some very good sessions and the feedback from the attendees was very positive. I gave an introductory talk on XML and a series of advanced Web Services talks as well as a keynote on Web Services and SOA. Chris Ferris joined me for part of the week and as well as giving a great session on WS-I, Chris helped me present a double session on all of the Web Services specs beyond the basic three (SOAP, WSDL, UDDI). This session was a 140 slide monster but was well received and I have to admit is fun to present. Chris has also posted about SHARE on his weblog. My thanks to all the speakers that made time to speak and to all of hte attendees that turned up and made the sessions interactive and fun to present. It was great to see the level of the questions which clearly showed me that people really are understanding the value and the technology behind SOA and Web Services. If you are interested, the agenda from the WEBS project is here. The next SHARE event is in Seattle, the week of March 5th 2006.
