The following contains information about the future direction of IBM products, but it not a commitment that IBM will deliver specific features or capabilities, or that IBM will deliver any product releases at all. Future product direction, dates, features or capabilities can change at any time without notice. The screen shots in the blog represent non-production build and the UI is subject to change.
In this week’s Sametime Sunday, I will show the new login screen for Sametime 7.5. When I launch Sametime 7.5 connect client, I must have a configured default community host. In the case of first time launch, the user will need to enter this information. In my case the default Sametime community that I connect to is "messaging". My username and password can be saved so when the client is launched, it will automatically log into the default community host. While it is not displayed on the login screen, Sametime 7.5 allows you to connect to multiple Sametime communities and external communities. In a future Sametime Sunday, I will show how to configure the client for multiple communities.
During login, I can also choose whether I want to work online or offline. If I decide to login to Sametime online, now I can choose my status and even status message prior to logging in. Most of you that have used previous version of Sametime are only familiar with online. Working offline will launch the client but not log me into any internal or external communities. If your asking why anyone would want to do that, Sametime 7.5 is more then just an IM client. While working offline, I can still open my chat history, edit any preferences, and use any of the plugins for my Sametime client. I have some custom plugins for Sametime 7.5 that do not ship with the product. This give me the ability to use these plugins without logging into a community. Stay tuned and I will show some plugins and explore the capabilities of this technology.
Also note at the top of the login screen. Company's or business departments have the ability for branding as shown with "Technology Adaption Program."
