The following contains information about the future direction of IBM products, but it not a commitment that IBM will deliver specific features or capabilities, or that IBM will deliver any product releases at all. Future product direction, dates, features or capabilities can change at any time without notice. The screen shots in the blog represent non-production build and the UI is subject to change.
This week’s Sametime Sunday is about the business critical features of emoticons in the Sametime 7.5 client. Well, maybe emoticons aren't business critical to an instant messaging application but users have come accustom to smiley faces during chats. Emoticons are mostly known as smiley faces and Sametime 7.5 has some out of the box emoticons:

So far, everyone would expect to see this in an instant messaging client. Sametime 7.5 also allows users to add there own images through the palette editor in the preferences. Users can add additional animated smileys or they can even create a new palette. The example below shows that I have created a new palette called IBM. In the IBM palette I have added some logo images that I would like to use while in a chat. When adding a picture to a palette, I have the ability to have a keyboard shortcut associated with that logo. For instance, all I have to do is type in "lnlogo" and the Lotus Software image will display in my rich text chat window.
Preferences -> Palette Editor
Keyboard shortcut is optional. I still have the ability to select the IBM palette and associated images/contents directly from within a chat.
