of the “Do More with TXSeries” webinars, Raghavendran from the team spoke about
Reliability, Availability and Serviceability features in TXSeries 7.1. There have been various improvements in the
area of RAS through the versions 6.1, 6.2 and 7.1. This blog lists the
enhancements in these areas and we would follow with details of each of the RAS
and Availability enhancements:
- Enhancements to improve
overall handling of FORCEPURGE situations
- Improves region availability
during these situations and enhancements also include more information
- Reliability improvements to
region recovery management
- Removes some of the hang
situations and improves region startup time after handling recovery.
- Improved region availability
on resource manager failures.
- Typically, CICS region used
to be brought down in case of database failures during transactions. This
feature avoids the region down but rather handles the failures in a
better manner to ensure transactional integrity at the same time keeping
the region available for other transactions (non-database) to continue.
- Enhanced availability of
TXSeries region through Workload Management.
- Providing insulation through
isolation of memory usage.
- An attempt to reduce memory
corruption situations in a customer environment.
- Provides boundary level
protection to system memory.
- Application probe utility for
debugging. Provides an FIR type information with a history of all tasks.
Useful to detect memory leaks of all kinds.
- Remote task information: A
way to map programs linked across regions to get critical information such
as transaction name, program name etc.
- An improved CICS Service
facility : A better and more useful tool to handle customer log collection
during problem scenarios.
a mere introduction to RAS features. More blogs would follow to write
additional details about the TXSeries 7.1 RAS features.
