Mainframe to client server....mainframe reporting to Microsoft Access...Cobol to Visual Basic...Exhange to GMail...Excel to Google Spreadsheet?? Siebel to SalesForce.com....one thing you will see in many of these X to X efforts is the empowering end users to just do it and to not wait for IT. Are sales reps getting their own $50.00 a month subscription to SalesForce.com to just keep track of their own efforts albiet alongside the "corporate standard"? Will we see end users building rapid spreadsheets with Google Spreadsheet that provides the collaboration that thick client spreadsheets lack? Online calendaring versus your Exchange or Notes Calendar? The question that crops up in my mind about this buzz and traction with SaaS and Web 2.0 is whether this next potential "paradigm shift" will create another wave of empowerment with end users, especially the iPod generation who just prefers to do everything online?
