In a customer project, we've developed dashboards that made it easy to monitor the correct settings of the consistency group cycle periods. These dashboards use the BVQ server as a data source for performance and topology data. This is a picture of one of the dashboards Click here for more information ... Download as pdf ... Contact us
Storage monitoring can be designed very efficiently and easy to understand at one glance. This WEB Monitoring Interface was designed very quickly. See these Dashboards for example! We call these special series of dashboards “Flip Dashboards” because each individual dashboard is showing the status of the Storage front-end backend and resources. All these are on different bowser tabs which rotate by the use a Tab changer . They flip from tab to tab automatically. These are ideal for a wallboard kind of... [More]
The performance analysis and troubleshooting of your SVC infrastructure needs a structure. Analyze the SVC in a structured way by using BVQ’s structured performance analysis methodology. This methodology guides you through the data path and it can, because BVQ has the Analysis Dashboard that contains dynamic performance views. The set of performance views brings into one single screen all the areas the data passes through so that you can with one simple glance, determine the area you should focus to find the root of the performance... BVQ really works well with large SVC clusters in the enterprise. BVQ was designed with that specific requirement in mind. Analyzing and troubleshooting a large SVC cluster can be done in just a few minutes. No searching in tables to make sense of data. BVQ is the tool for analyzing hundreds or even thousands of SVC objects at once with just a few clicks. Our customers have struggled with the large amount of objects to search through to be able to find the single one, causing a high latency issue. The system... [More]
The BVQ Web Dashboard is based on Grafana, which is one of the leading open source software tools to visualize time series data that can interact with different data sources ( https://grafana.com/ ). The BVQ Server now provides an API to access most performance metrics you know from the BVQ GUI, to visualize them in Grafana. Therefore, you have the option to install a preconfigured Grafana with some default Dashboards inside the BVQ Server. This offers a great possibility to view general "realtime" information directly in the browser... [More]
REST API Microsoft Excel is the most important and flexible Reporting Tool. Manifold opportunities to create tables, charts, calculations, etc. bundled with a variety of different skills makes it useful in a lot of different situations. Excel provides a wide range of options to import data from different formats in files, databases or API's. BVQ now provides an API to connect Excel to Topology information based on favorites located in "All Users". The information can be displayed in a Treetable and imported into Excel for further... Enhanced filtering Since version 5.0 it is possible to use basic filter options inside the Topology View. This type of filter was restricted to direct object attributes which could be connected with AND conditions. The new enhanced filtering added a lot of additional filter options to specify filters that exactly fit your needs even if they are highly complex. Features: Compare different object attributes with each other Compare object attributes with context attributes (subelementcount, subelementsize, etc) Concatenate with AND, OR, NOT, XOR... [More]
Path based charting Since BVQ Version 5.0 it is possible to display a table (Treetable) below the Treemap. Now we went one step further and extended the Topology view with the option to add a performance chart to interact with the objects visible in Treemap or Treetable. This enhances the possibilities to select and restrict objects based on dynamic filters and selected conditions. Now there are three views available to be displayed in the Toplology view: Treemap, Treetable and Chart. Currently you can display two of them simultaneously in ever... [More]
As a request from one of our customers, we created a new metric called Overallocation coverage in BVQ version 5.3.1. Basically this is the ratio of over-allocated thin/compressed capacity covered by a pool or cluster: What is the advantage of having this metric? It shows very easily how well the space efficient VDisks are covered by storage capacities. In some cases, especially in very static environments, you know that you do not need this coverage. This value may then be... [More]
The intention of VDisk copies is to protect servers against hardware failures. For this reason, it is important that the mirrors of the VDisk copies are stored on different storage systems. Here are some additional challenges in system administration and system monitoring. This document describes how to ensure that all volumes are stored on different sites. An wrong setup in this area can lead to an only 50% chance of surviving a fail over. If there is a mirrored pair on Site 1 and by an evil coincidence an another on Site 2 you have the... [More]
SVA Software has just released a new version of our performance and capacity analysis software for IBM Spectrum Virtualized Infrastructure’s - BVQ v5 This new release has some great new features that simplifies and delivers even faster results to ensure that IBM Spectrum Virtualized infrastructures are always running at peak performance. New streamline reporting An integrated database for faster analysis and faster deployments Multi-view actionable dashboards for quick insight across the whole infrastructure Analytic favorites that... How analysis windows support storage performance analysis (and make it by factors faster) BVQ version 5 introduces a new interface which allows the grouping of logically connected views into dashboard-like analysis windows. These groupings can then be stored as favorites and can be used like recipes to help solve problems quickly. The following picture shows an analysis window which gives an overview of a complete storage system. This analysis window describes the data path and the load in the hardware in a way that allows for... [More]
Let's talk about great analysis power! But first: What is the difference between a dashboard and a technical dashboard? You have probably seen my post about the Grafana dashboard https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/blogs/BVQ/entry/See_this_at_Edge_2016_Performance_data_graphical_visualization_for_SVC_and_Storwize?lang=en "This is what changed the world of storage performance analysis!

BVQ will support Grafana for the performance data graphical visualization for SVC and Storwize (IBM Spectrum Virtualization). Use the whole power of BVQ to collect and prepare the data and let Grafana create excellent dashboards out of this! Come to booth 248 to see it live!
