AndroidAndroid is an Open Source Operating System developed by Google. Android is designed for mobile devices such as Smartphone and tablet computers using a Linux-based operating system. Android was originally developed in secret by Android Corporation. On August 17, 2005 Google acquired Android Inc. and made Android Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of Google Inc. Some of the key employees of Android Inc, such as Rich Miner and Chris White stayed at the company after the acquisition. Recently, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 is the latest version of Android for Smartphone. It was announced on October 19, 2011, and brought many interesting feature to users including facial recognition unlock, network data usage monitoring and control, unified social networking contracts, photography enhancements, offline email searching, app folders, and information sharing using NFC. Android is currently the most popular operating system on Smartphone and it is a very important platform for social media and social networking with its applications.
