Virtual machines are in a constant state of flux, always being created, deleted, and migrated from one host server to another. This can be costly on a configuration management database (CMDB), as new discoveries are needed to be run constantly, keeping the database updated. Most cases this isn’t possible, therefore, we need a way to keep the CMDB updated in real time.
This paper describes how to use ITM to send proactive (dynamic) updates to TADDM from ITM (pre 6.2.3) when virtual machines are created, deleted, or migrated (or moved). By utilizing the ITM situation take actions, we will call on a script that will execute a utility that will send a JSON message to TADDM, updating the virtual machine. By utilizing the proactive update feature provided by TADDM, your CMDB containing the virtual machines will always be updated, without costly discoveries.
