IBM Entrepreneur SmartCamp
Recruiting Experienced ‘Grey Heads'
We have off the air for a while over the summer months. Having completed 4 of 9 SmartCamp events July is quite
before we ramp up for Tel Aviv in mid Sept. I have spent that last 5 weeks in the US (NY and west coast) and
will write a post about entrepreneurship in the US vs. Europe soon. In the meantime…..
It is great to hear about early stage companies recruiting experienced ‘grey heads’. A good example is Sproxil
who won SmartCamp Boston in 2010. A few months ago we reported that Paul Chang (one of our distinguished
engineers) had joined the advisory board. Yesterday they announced some serious recruits including Nicholas M.
Donofrio (retired 44-year IBM veteran and IBM fellow). Nick is an amazing individual with a huge amount of
energy and know that he will enjoying working with the Sproxil team. In addition Dr. Gunther L. Faber and C.
Hunter Boll also join the board. An amazing wealth of experience and a great example of how to recruit ‘an A-
team’. More detail here….
Sproxil, a U.S.-based company that provides world-class brand protection in emerging markets through software
and services that work anywhere there are mobile phones, today announced the appointments of Dr. Gunther L.
Faber, C. Hunter Boll and Nicholas Donofrio to its Board of Directors. Each brings a background of extensive
industry and consumer experiences that enrich the company’s mission and complement Sproxil’s efforts to provide
a user-friendly solution that requires minimal education and training to use on the part of consumers.
“Having been involved in healthcare in the developing world for the past 30 years, one can’t help but develop
an anger against those individuals/syndicates who profit by producing counterfeit drugs at an industrial scale
and marketing these efforts to the most vulnerable, the poor,” said Dr. Gunther L. Faber, CEO of The
HealthStore Foundation. “It is organizations like Sproxil – prepared to tackle this practice head-on – who play
a vital part in stemming the tide of counterfeit drugs. I am indeed pleased to be one of the group of Directors
on the Board of a company committed to making safe drugs a given in the developing world.”
Sproxil ‘s Mobile Product Authentication™ (MPA) technology capitalizes on technologies that already exist and
are readily accessible and easily understood by all levels of society – namely cellular phone SMS capabilities
and scratch-off lottery-style labels. The company’s services allow end consumers to verify with a simple free
text message that they are not purchasing counterfeit medication. With Sproxil’s technology, consumers start
buying genuine drugs over spurious ones and pharmaceutical companies pay service fees to Sproxil for the
increase in sales of genuine pharmaceutical products.
