IBM General Manager, Watson Solutions, Software Group
Manoj Saxena is General Manager, Watson Solutions, IBM Software Group. He has global responsibility for
commercialization and scaling of IBM Watson super-computer based solutions business. Previously he was Vice
President, Industry & Cloud Business Solutions where he led worldwide strategy, market development, and
investments for IBM’s Industry Solutions business.
Manoj joined IBM in August 2006 through IBM’s acquisition of Webify
Solutions—a company he founded in 2002 and led as its chairman, president and chief executive officer. He
successfully founded, managed and sold two venture-backed software companies, Exterprise and Webify,
within a five-year span. Previously, he was with 3M Company.
A frequent speaker at industry and business conferences, Manoj is the recipient of multiple awards
including “Entrepreneur of the Year”, “IT Technologist of the Year”, and the “Distinguished Alumni Award”
from Michigan State University.
An active community contributor, Manoj serves on the Board of Any Baby Can, Austin Technology
Council, and Saxena Family Foundation and holds numerous other Advisory Board positions including
Global Giving, St Edwards University Business School, and Michigan State University’s Center for Venture
Capital, Private Equity and Entrepreneurial Finance.
US Patent and Trademark Office Administrator Inventors Assistance Program
John Calvert has responsibility of the Inventor Assistance Program, which includes inventor outreach and university
outreach initiatives. The USPTO has made outreach and education a high priority due to the increased
interest in intellectual property both by business and education. Mr. Calvert has expanded the Inventor
Assistance Program to include educational initiatives for students, inventors and small businesses and
has created inventor assistance through pro bono and pro se initiatives both inside the USPTO and through
working with universities and Bar organizations.
Abstract of John's talk:
Recently President Obama signed the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act into law. This new law is multi-
faceted and will take up to 18 months until full implementation. This talk will break down the major
components into implementation time frames and will discuss some of changes that have or will take place
in the first 60 days after signing. Funding of the United States Patent and Trademark Office is one of
the key components. There will be a discussion about the interim fee structure, what fee-setting
authority means and how to understand who qualifies for micro-entity fees.
Prior to being named Administrator, John was responsible for supervising as many as 25 examiners in the
areas of textile technology and absorbent products. He also served as Acting Director for the Office of
Independent Inventor Programs.
John graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Textile
Technology in May 1971. He worked for Milliken and Co. and J. P. Stevens prior to returning to N.C. State
University to pursue a Master of Science Degree in Textile Management. In February of 1990, John joined
the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as an examiner specializing in textile technology. In February 1995,
John became a Primary Examiner and in October 1998, he was named a Supervisory Patent Examiner. He has
worked on various details and work assignments during his career at the USPTO.
Mr. Calvert has received numerous achievement awards, including the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal
for superior Federal service and the United States Patent and Trademark Office Exceptional Career Award.
Mr. Calvert completed studies in the Syracuse University, Maxwell School certificates program of Advanced
Public Management and completed the Executive Development Seminar sponsored by the Office of Personnel

Kevin Koym accelerates entrepreneur

Championing the cause of startups for over a decade has given Kevin the chance to launch a number of
companies across the world. The culmination of those experiences has led to the founding of Tech Ranch Austin, a venture accelerator for
early-stage technology companies. Through Tech Ranch Austin, Kevin has optimized his ability to assemble
the pieces necessary to get a startup functioning and growing quickly.
Before Tech Ranch Austin, Kevin founded, or was on the founding teams, of 7 different startup companies
and four entrepreneur networks in the US, Mexico, and Chile, that he continues to actively grow. And
Kevin’s service to these groups was also recently recognized as “Technology Community Leader of the Year”
for 2010 by the Association of Information Technology Professionals, Austin Chapter.
Personally and professionally, Kevin is defined by his ability to inspire both individuals and businesses
to seize the technological and social revolution on the horizon in order to better their community as
well as their profit potential. The key roles Kevin has played in a variety of startups throughout his
life have enabled him to fine-tune his ability to replicate the success of helping entrepreneurs build
what they never thought as possible before.
